Hot Metal Detectors (HMD)
Hot Metal Detectors & Scanners detect the infrared radiation emitted from the hot product via a optic lens system focused onto a photo-diode or photo-diode array. This produces a switched output when the infrared radiation exceeds a preset level or control margin .
To meet the stringent requirements of the industry, MODULOC © has two design technologies. Straightforward IR Detection via a single photo-diode Hot Metal Detectors or alternatively via a photo-diode array with the Pathfinder Digital Scanning Hot Metal Detector.
This enables you to select the technology with which you are more comfortable with. More importantly, it enables MODULOC © to put forward exactly the right solution for your needs.

Why the two technologies?
Most requirements for detection of hot product are easily met with
precision by implementing single diode HMDs. However, at extreme
ends of the production process this is not always the case. For
instance, at the furnace doors where scale builds up, or at the
output end where heavy steam or water are often present, reliable
detection can sometimes be difficult.
Where product size and temperature varies substantially, more
accurate detection of the edge is assured with the Pathfinder
Scanner. Additionally, the Pathfinder incorporates automatic
background IR algorithm analysis via a internal micro-processor that ensures
its performance is unaffected with these changes.
With MODULOC © Single Diode HMDs -
you have the option of either the
self-contained housing with unique built in air cooling chamber
venting as air purge or water cooling. Alternatively, our Remote
Detectors with separate lens connected via, fiber optic cables
or 2 wire connection. The former removes the need for coolant on the
line, the latter accommodates grouped multiple controller mounting.
As result of modular assembly design,
MODULOC ©
HMDs provide straightforward installation and adjustment
flexibility, plus easy maintenance and component replacement in the
field.
As result of the latest electronic and digital technology,
MODULOC ©
Detectors offer the user highly precise detection. All housings and
fittings are of rugged construction and resistant to mill water,
oils and steam, plus the high variation in ambient and severe
vibrations found on a production line.
